At the end of 2016, Laura Paton, an Architect from Glasgow, got in touch with the DSDC about fundraising for the Trust in memory of her gran who sadly passed away after a long battle with dementia.
As an Architect, Laura has been involved in designing a care home using the DSDC’s Dementia Design Principles. Knowing that small design changes can support people with dementia to live as well as possible, reducing stress and distress, encouraged Laura to raise funds for the Trust so DSDC can continue to provide education and training to improve lives of people with dementia and their families.
Over the year, Laura took on 17 mammoth challenges and raised an incredible £2,227.53!
The DSDC and the Trust can’t thank Laura enough for her hard work and determination. We know there’s a lot of preparation involved taking on one event never mind 17 – particularly when battling with the harsh Scottish weather. We also need to thank Laura’s family and friends as they have provided her with a lot of support, and joined her on some of the challenges. In particular I think Daisy, Laura’s beautiful dog, needs a special mention!
Laura has asked for the money she raised to go towards DSDC’s Dementia Education for Family Carers and Volunteers project, which is helping support people with dementia and their families in the community, providing practical solutions that can truly improve day to day lives for those affected by a diagnosis.
Thank you Laura!
